Who We Are

Aurex is a mission-focused aerospace and defense company building the next frontier of deterrence. From hypersonics and missile defense to hardened networks and orbital systems, we design, test, and deliver the platforms that turn unproven ideas into battlefield-ready capability.

Born in Huntsville and built for speed, Aurex brings together aerospace veterans, combat-tested operators, and forward-leaning technologists to solve problems that matter—fast. We move from whiteboard to warfighter with precision, clarity, and zero tolerance for fluff.

Position Summary

We are seeking an early-career Systems Modeling & Simulation Engineer to support the development, analysis, and flight testing of advanced aerospace systems. This engineer will apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, and modeling and simulation (M&S) techniques to help define system architectures, evaluate system behavior and performance, manage interfaces, and support the development of prototype flight hardware.

The ideal candidate combines a strong systems engineering foundation with hands-on technical aptitude. This is not primarily a documentation role: the engineer will work closely with simulation, guidance/navigation/control (GNC), software, electrical, mechanical, test, and flight engineering teams to develop models that directly support engineering decisions and hardware development.

The position is well suited for an engineer with at least 3 years of relevant experience who wants to take an active role leading MBSE implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain SysML system models representing system architecture, requirements, behaviors, interfaces, parameters, and verification relationships.
  • Apply MBSE practices throughout the engineering lifecycle, from concept development and requirements definition through integration, test, and flight demonstration.
  • Translate engineering concepts and system requirements into logical and physical architectures.
  • Develop block definition diagrams, internal block diagrams, activity diagrams, state machines, sequence diagrams, parametric models, and requirements relationships as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain traceability between requirements, system architecture, simulation models, test cases, and verification evidence.
  • Work with modeling and simulation engineers to connect SysML system models with analytical and executable models developed in environments such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, Modelica, or similar tools.
  • Define and manage subsystem interfaces, including data, electrical, mechanical, software, and functional interfaces.
  • Support development of simulation architectures for missile and other high-performance flight vehicle applications.
  • Participate in trade studies, architecture evaluations, sensitivity analyses, and design-space exploration.
  • Develop models and engineering artifacts supporting prototype hardware development, hardware/software integration, ground testing, and flight testing.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams including GNC, aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, avionics, software, electrical, test, and systems engineering.
  • Help identify inconsistencies, missing requirements, interface conflicts, and design risks through system modeling.
  • Support model reviews and communicate system architecture and behavior clearly to technical and program stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics, autonomous systems, or another complex engineered-system environment.
  • Practical experience using SysML and Model-Based Systems Engineering concepts.
  • Experience with a SysML modeling environment such as Cameo Systems Modeler / MagicDraw, CATIA Magic, Enterprise Architect, Rhapsody, or similar.
  • Understanding of systems engineering concepts including:
    • Requirements development and decomposition
    • Functional analysis
    • Logical and physical architecture
    • Interface definition
    • Verification and validation
    • Requirements traceability
  • Experience with engineering modeling, simulation, analysis, or test.
  • Ability to understand multidisciplinary engineering problems and represent them clearly through models.
  • Strong technical communication skills and ability to work closely with engineers across multiple disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of relevant aerospace or defense engineering experience.
  • Experience developing or analyzing missiles, guided weapons, launch vehicles, UAVs, aircraft, spacecraft, or other dynamic aerospace systems.
  • Experience supporting prototype flight hardware development, integration, ground test, or flight test.
  • Background/experience in Reliability and MTBF modeling
  • Familiarity with six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) flight simulation, vehicle dynamics, Monte Carlo analysis, or mission-level simulation.
  • Experience connecting system architecture models with executable engineering models or simulation environments.
  • Experience with SysML parametrics, model execution, model queries, validation rules, or automation.
  • Familiarity with configuration management and collaborative software-development practices using tools such as Git.

How You Will Be Rewarded

The salary range for this role is $104,000 - $133,000 annually We offer a comprehensive total rewards approach to compensation, providing incentives and benefits that extend far beyond the base salary. Compensation is determined by the candidate’s work experience, education, training, and relevant skills. We offer a competitive benefits package designed to support our employees' health, well-being, and professional growth.
